River Arwood

He/They

Georgia born River Arwood is a queer, multi-disciplinary artist, with a focus on oil painting and the performing arts. His work over the last several years as both a visual artist and a performer has been featured in publications and exhibitions across the south.

Arwood’s most recent body of work is a playful study of the complexity of connection in a digital age. Born from iCloud snapshots and pilfered instagram stories, this glittering array of imagery glorifies mundane instances of kinship by immortalizing moments with an intended 24 hour expiration date. Grandiose portraits of personal idols are served up next to tender blurred memories and almost uncomfortably close self portraits. Exiting an era where our only method of connection was virtual, Arwood’s paintings aim to capture the longing for community, even in its most ephemeral and intangible forms.
